I have decided to do another interview for today. This time, however, I decided to interview my girls. Ninette has just turned 17 earlier this month, and is in grade 11. Bianca will turn 15 early in August, and she is in grade 9. I asked them the questions in private, so they would not influence each others answers. Hope you enjoy the read!
Q1) Are you happy on the banting lifestyle?
Ninette - Very much!
Bianca - Yes.
Q2) What did you think about banting when we told you about it the first time?
Ninette - Thought it was interesting and different
Bianca - I thought it worth a shot, but I did not really think it would make such a difference.
Q3) How difficult was the first week for you, specially looking at how different it is from what you were taught regarding healthy food?
Ninette - Was very easy. I had no problems with the fat, and the biltong was very nice.
Bianca - It wasn't really difficult. We ate a lot of nice food, so it did not bother me at all.
Q4) What do you enjoy most about banting?
Ninette - I feel a lot better, and I have a lot more energy. I am more happy and less moody.
Bianca - I feel better than ever before. I feel more energetic, like a new person. The weight loss is a bonus.
Q5) What food do you enjoy most?
Ninette - Everything
Bianca - It's between curry Cabbage, egg muffins, and cream spinach with feta.
Q6) Are there any food you miss?
Ninette - Nope.I used to love spaghetti, and I don't even miss that!
Bianca - I've forgotten how the other food taste, so no!
Q7) Have you told your friends that you are banting? What were their reactions/thoughts?
Ninette - Yes. They were interested, and wanted to know more. They are very supportive. One of them wants to start banting as well.
Bianca - No.
Q8) How do you cope with carb-based food when visiting non-banting friends or go out in a group?
Ninette - I have not been in such a situation yet. When I was at friends, we had a braai, so there was enough banting-friendly food.
Bianca - I've not been in such a situation yet, but if I do happen to go out and know I will probably eat wrong, I will eat a fat bomb at home, and then eat as little as possible non-banting without being rude.
Q9) Which do you enjoy more, cooking banting-style or the old way? And why.
Ninette - Banting-style! A lot more variety, and a lot more experimenting. It's not the same foods over and over.
Bianca - Banting style. With it, you actually cook. You don't just put a lot of stuff in a pot and let it cook. You have a lot of variety and room for experiments.
Q10) Have any of your friends noticed a change in your weight / self-confidence?
Ninette - I've always been full of self confidence, and my friends have noticed and commented on it. (No lack of self confidence here, believe me! - Sam)
Bianca - Few of my friends noticed I am more self confident (asked me why I am so happy and out going), and I don't look down as I walk the whole time. I feel a lot more self confident. One of my friends also commented on my clothes that is so much looser.
Q11) Finally, once we reach our desired weight, will you return to the old way of eat?
Ninette - Never!
Bianca - I'll keep on the banting way as far as possible.
So, if you are not sure your teen will like this lifestyle, just give it a try! They may surprise you!
